The download comes with an essay, ‘Boundary Object: Difference tones or otoacoustic emissions?’, which goes into more detail on the psychoacoustic history of auditory distortion and the synthesis methods used.

Most loudspeakers will be fine to listen to these effects through, but they should be listened to via loudspeakers and not headphones.

The sounds ought to be audible at moderate levels, but higher volumes give better results.
