SUPERPANG

"pedimos un mensaje" ("we ask for a message") transplants the human voice from the gusty hollow of its oral den to the machinic topology of deep learning networks, where, no longer subject to the operative constraints of the human vocal apparatus, its sonic potentials are stretched into grotesque and comic sonorities and then beyond, into abstractions completely severed from their human origins. Meanwhile, dictation apps eavesdrop on the proceedings, generating a hallucinatory libretto for a chorus of speech synthesizers from the system’s spasmodic grunts and wails. As in the case of the twentieth century’s text cut-ups, an inhuman agency emerges from the void, here momentarily granted the ability to speak, in one instant addressing the listener with uncanny lucidity and in the next abandoning language altogether in favor of as-yet-unmapped syntactical schemas.
