Orpheus’ Pipes gathers a series of sound collages and researches crafted out of manipulations of 78rpm records of traditional cabrette from Occitania and Highland bagpipes I have managed to collect over the past few years. My interest in the special timbre of the bagpipe is old - despite ignoring how to actually play the instrument myself, it has always been strangely familiar and, as I recently found out, also makes the link between my British roots from my father's side and the Occitan part of my family in Aveyron, France. Recorded with samplers and synthesizers, both analog and digital, those pieces are largely improvised, often spontaneously assembled, as some kind of archeological and anthropological reverie on my ancestors' relationship to the bagpipe and, more generally, to trance and ritual music. More than tracks or compositions, I kind of consider them as transmissions, as my role was to process, listen, feel, collect and roughly sculpt the material, mostly in conditions that I did not have full control over.

Partly initiated and premiered at ICC Berlin during the Berliner Festspiele in October 2021, those pieces cannot be recreated live identically - instead, I choose to embrace their looseness and openness, which gives birth to new pathways and iterations, sometimes more meditative and ethereal, sometimes more intense, propulsive and trance-inducing, using keyboards, samplers, as well as mixture of electronic and acoustic percussion elements.
